Helwig Zoeller

 

Helwig Zoeller was appointed sheriff and tax collector by the Commissioners Court after John Reinhard resigned. In the November election, Albert Bodemann was elected sheriff and took office in January 1884. Helwig returned to farming and ranching. He was born in the Spring Creek Community near Boerne in 1855. His father, Phillip Zoeller, was an architect who came to Texas with The Darmstadt Society of Forty in 1847.   Phillip designed the first Kendall County Courthouse. Helwig married Anna Wesseley in August 1880. They had seven children, and many of his descendants still live in Kendall County.
