Flock Safety

The Kendall County Sheriff's Office utilizes Flock Safety License Plate Reader (LPR) cameras as a proactive tool to enhance public safety, assist in criminal investigations, and help protect our community.

How the System Works

Flock Safety cameras are placed in strategic, publicly visible locations throughout Kendall County, such as major roadways and neighborhood entry and exit points. These cameras capture images of passing vehicles, not individuals.

Using advanced optical character recognition (OCR) technology, the system reads and converts license plates into searchable data. In addition to the license plate number, the system may capture:

Vehicle make, model, and color
Distinguishing features (such as decals or roof racks)
Date, time, and location of the vehicle

This information provides deputies with valuable investigative leads when a crime occurs.

Real-Time Crime Alerts

The system is integrated with national and state crime databases. When a vehicle associated with a reported crime, such as a stolen vehicle, missing person case, or wanted suspect, is detected, deputies receive a real-time alert. This allows for a quicker and more informed response.

Privacy and Accountability

The Kendall County Sheriff's Office is committed to protecting the privacy of our residents. The Flock Safety system is designed with strict safeguards:

No facial recognition technology is used
No audio is recorded
Cameras focus only on vehicles in public spaces
Data is stored for a limited time (30 days) and then automatically deleted
Access is restricted to authorized personnel for legitimate law enforcement purposes
All searches are logged and subject to audit
