Letter From the Sheriff

07/29/2019

On July 2nd, 2019, the Kendall County Sheriff’s Office experienced the loss of Deputy Carlos Ramirez. Deputy Ramirez was struck and killed by a passing motorist as he was conducting a routine traffic stop on Interstate 10 in Kendall County. This was a sudden and tragic loss of a fine young Deputy who had a bright future in law enforcement ahead of him. Deputy Ramirez also served his country proudly as a member of the Texas Army National Guard and had just returned from a yearlong deployment in Africa. Deputy Ramirez left behind a wonderful wife and two young children. Then, on July 5th, 2019, the Sheriff’s Office lost beloved Sergeant Matthew Johnson to colon cancer, a battle he had fought bravely and with dignity for twelve long months. Sergeant Johnson had been a Peace officer for 18 years, seven of which were with the Kendall County Sheriff’s Office. Sergeant Johnson left behind a loving and caring wife and many relatives. Both of these fine young men were well-respected leaders who gave to their community and their country. Their personalities and character were among the finest anywhere and they will be forever missed.
