Meet Renee - Our Furry Mental Health Hero!

06/03/2025

On October 1, 2021, Facility Dog Renee officially joined the Kendall County Sheriff's Office family, working alongside Sheriff Al Auxier and Mental Health Deputy Michelle Quade (pictured below). We welcomed Renee from the amazing team at Service Dogs Inc. in Dripping Springs, and let's be honest, we weren't quite sure how she'd fit into our mental health program. But we did know one thing: this pup had a heart full of comfort to share.

Fast forward to today, and Renee has become a beloved member of our agency and community. With her calm demeanor, special training, and love for people, she brings smiles and comfort wherever she goes, whether she's visiting schools, attending community events, or just hanging around the office waiting for pets (and yes, you CAN pet Renee! ).

Renee has helped us break down barriers and connect with folks in ways only a dog can. She's proof that sometimes, a wagging tail can make all the difference.

Here's the exciting part: Service Dogs Inc. has more facility dogs just like Renee who are ready to team up with law enforcement and first responders! Gillespie County Sheriff's Office recently welcomed its facility dog, and your agency could be next. These dogs are provided free of charge and are trained to be a paws-itive presence in the community.

A message from Service Dogs Inc. Founder/CEO Sheri Soltes:

"For your Mental Health Officer, a specially trained dog can connect with your staff and citizens when no one else can. Service Dogs Inc. provides First Responder Facility Dogs free of charge. Established in 1988. Customized training includes 3 months of weekly on-site sessions."
