The Kendall County Sheriff's Office needs your help getting the word out on a Phone SCAM that targets our elderly residents.
Several Kendall County Residents have reported receiving a phone call from an individual claiming to be with a computer software company.

The caller tells them they need to update their computer virus program or requests more information to give them a refund. They will then ask the citizen for their bank account information and tell them they will just put the refund straight into their bank account. Which citizens are doing.

The caller will also ask how much the citizen can withdrawal each day and target those withdrawing an unlimited amount or a higher amount. These callers are from various locations, but the last one reported was from the Philippines.

We ask that citizens never give their bank account information to anyone over the phone or over the internet unless they are actually purchasing something.

Many scams are going around, and we must be diligent in knowing who these scammers are. IRS nor any federal entity will ever call and ask for your banking information; they mail letters.

If in question, ask for a phone number and ask for a company name. Many promise money, but we get nothing for free, so if it sounds too good to be true, it is a scam.

If you have never heard of the company, nor do you have the service, it's a scam. Don't think you're getting free money. They are taking your hard-earned money, and these cases can't be worked out of the country.

The financial institutes (Banks) are not refunding the customers because the customer is authorizing the transaction, and they authorize the account.
