KCSO Remembers Lt. Larry Kolb #5511

10/02/2020

Lt. Kolb Memorial Ribbon
On this day in 1999 Lt. Larry Kolb was shot and killed when he was ambushed after responding to a shots fired call in the Shady Rest Mobile Home Park near Boerne.

Although he was en route home following his shift, he responded to the call while he was off duty because he was the closest deputy to the scene. As he was approaching the residence he identified himself as a deputy and was then shot in the neck and chest by the suspect, who was using an AK-47. Deputy Kolb was not wearing a bulletproof vest.
Other officers who then arrived on the scene found the suspect hiding under a trailer. The suspect fired at them as well but was killed when the officers returned fire.

Deputy Kolb had served with the Kendall County Sheriff's Office for three years. He had previously served in law enforcement since 1987 and had previously served with the Lago Vista Police Department and Austin Independent School District Police Department. He is survived by his wife and two young sons.
